February Newsletter

GVCC Members,

Enjoying the winter freeze!?  The Rochester weather the past few weeks has made it especially difficult to ride outside. Even our beloved tour-de-trails is essentially unusable. A few hearty souls have been bearing the elements on the roads, many have been resorting to their fat bikes or taking advantage of the excellent nordic skiing conditions, and of course likely thousands of Zwift miles have been logged across our membership.

The good news, our Spring Giros are just 23 days away!  We start Saturday March 13th.  If you haven’t already registered with the club you can do so here.  We’re likely going to implement the same approach as the g-tour last year with bike-reg signup for each event and other covid protocols.  More on that to follow.

Reminder that with your membership you are obligated to marshal twice per year. The marshal sign-up form is here.  Email racedirector@gvccracing.com to reserve your spots.  Note the giros and TTs are filling up.

Bloomfield is your 2021 New York State Championships!

We’re super excited that Mike Madden, Matt Rankin and Team Towpath have successfully won the bid for the 2021 NYSBRA NYS Championship Road Race on Saturday July 24th.  The Bloomfield course presents an opportunity for a wider array of riders including those who may not particularly fair well on long climbs. As a club it’s important we offer our best support either by participating in the race or helping day of as a marshal or driver.  The race is listed on the marshal sign form and we will need many more than current 4 slots allotted.

NYSBRA has done a good job of upping the game for winners including the honor of wearing a special champions jersey for one year. Here’s the list of current champions (from 2019).  Bristol was the last venue to hold the road race and GVCC members didn’t fair to well!  Only one jersey claimed – Shawn Alexander for Junior Boys 17-18.  Let’s hope to improve on that this year.
