We'll be back to the park around 12:00 for lunch for those that can't make the ride. BYOB.  Lunch will be catered by Big Boy Catering once again.  Guests are welcome at lunch  & awards, $10 per if they are eating.

Looking forward to seeing everyone to celebrate our club champs, recognize the member award nominees and winners, and cap off what was another awesome season of bike racing and camaraderie.  

Thanks to everyone who supported the GVCC Classic either by racing or volunteering! It was a great day on a challenging course.

Big thanks to Andy Ruestow as Race Director, Dave Bischoff as Co-RD, Matt McNamara helping with timing and logistics, Jan van Aardt as the Volunteer Coordinator, and Matt Quinlan the $ man.  It was a team effort.  Lots learned and we are already looking forward to repeating it next year.

This race also served as the GVCC vs BBC Club Championship and GVCC took home the trophy for the 2nd year in a row.  Nicely done!

The GVCC vs BBC club championship is back for 2024 but not as originally planned.  Now instead of stand alone event, it will be held in conjunction with the GVCC Classic at Bristol on Aug 24.

Scoring:

This race is different from most because the only score that matters is your club’s total score!  Everyone who is a member of the BBC is on one team and everyone from GVCC is on the other team (regardless of regular team affiliations).  The winner of the BBC vs GVCC Club vs Club race is the club that scores the most cumulative points across the fields above, not the individual winners of the races.

We will not score racers from other clubs. So for example if you are 3rd in your field but first BBC or GVCC, that's 15 points.

1st = 15 points

2nd = 13 points

3rd = 11 points

4th = 9 points

5th = 7 points

6th = 6 points

7th = 5 points

8th = 4 points

9th = 3 points

10th = 2 points

11th and after = 1 point each

Welcome to the G2 Junior Cyclocross Development Program. The goal of this initiative is to develop a program that enables young athletes to learn and grow in the sport of cycling.

Why G2?:

It is GVCC’s next generation…GVCC’s 2-point-0… It is the future.
And in 2023 we were recognized as a Center of Excellence by USA Cycling for our work with this program.  Details here.  Last year we had three former Junior clinic attendees representing the United States on our national team all over the world.  

Why Cyclocross?

Cyclocross is the perfect way to introduce young athletes to cycling. All events are held off the road, usually in a park setting, where parents can watch and young riders can be safe. The courses include various obstacles such as sand, barriers, hills that will be FUN challenges for young athletes. The regional cyclocross race season is almost every weekend from September to December. Race days have a festival atmosphere with competition from beginners to international pros! The GVCC Junior Cyclocross Program will give young athletes an opportunity to learn about the sport, develop bike handling skills, prepare to race in regional events, and most importantly have fun!

GVCC Junior Cyclocross Program Events

As a part of the GVCC Junior Development program, young athletes will take part in a weekly practices that focus on the various skills needed in the sport while having fun! Each week, riders will focus on different obstacles and gradually build throughout the series. The events will be scaled to accommodate both new and returning riders.

Coaching

The Junior development program will be led by Jeff Lubkowski and his team.   Jeff has been racing bikes for over 10 years and has worked with our Junior program for 5+.  

Racing

The regional cyclocross race season is almost every weekend from September to December. Race days have a festival atmosphere with competition from beginners to international pros!

The TTT is back!

Thursday June 20th @ Riga
Check in at 6pm, First Team off at 6:30.
1 minute intervals.

We're running 3 laps of the Riga course, ~28.5 miles.
Four person teams (fewer permitted if you can't find 4).
Finish time is taken from the 3rd rider across the line.
You must elect as an "A" team or "B" team and your riders must be from that group.
Points will be Road points and not TT points.
1st place 7 points, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.  All riders on the team will be awarded the points.
TT bikes are permitted.

For 2024 we're starting a new Juniors group.

Wednesdays @ 6pm, ride from 6:15 to ~7:15pm (May and June)

• Location - TBD & changes week to week. Contact Todd Bogumil for updates jrdev@gvccracing.com

• Rides will be mixed surface (road, gravel, canal path, etc) and all weather.

• Drop bar bikes, helmets and "road-ish" tires required (no flat bars or knobby tires for safety reasons) unless approved by a coach.  Gym shorts and t-shirts and sneakers are fine.

• Rides may be on open roads...stay single file and as far to the right as possible.

• Before participating, riders must be signed up as a GVCC junior/high school member through bikereg: https://www.bikereg.com/gvcc-membership
